| Beginner 1 |
Introduction to West Coast Swing for beginners and a great Basics Review for anyone. Also great for long-time dancers who want to add the newest style to their basics |
Starter Step, Throw-out, Push-Step, Underarm, Left Side-pass and Close-step (6-count patterns) | No prior dance knowledge required. Just show up and be ready to dance! Classes run in five-week sessions. After the second week, students are encouraged to start on the next session. |
| Beginner 2 | Step 2 for beginners or for anyone reviewing their basics. Review Beginner 1 basics, learn the basic whip and Basic Spin and Turn Fundamentals. | Straight Whip, Inside Whip, Outside Whip (8-count patterns) and Tuck Turn (6-count) | Completion of Beginner 1 preferred, or teacher approval. Classes run in four-week sessions. After the second week, students are encouraged to start on the next session. |
| Intermediate 1 |
Add variations and turns to the basics from Beginner 1 and 2. Learn variations to your side passes, underarms, whips and tuck turns. |
Learn basic spin technique and variations on the basics: anchor steps, starter/ throw-outs, push steps, whips, left- & right-side passes and others | Students should be able to demonstrate the basic whips. Classes run in five-week sessions, but are NOT sequential. |
| Intermediate 2 | Expand beyond the basics into longer patterns and more challenging spins and turns | Pattern amalgamations and multiple turns. Each session builds a new amalgamation of patterns, with each week building on the previous. | Intermediate level. Classes run in four-week sessions. |
| Swing Technique |
Whether a beginner dancer or advanced, learn how to do “what you do” better. Lead, follow, frame, spin or even leverage with greater balance and footwork variations. |
STRONG emphasis is placed on learning or re-learning proper technique within the basic patterns. | Beginner to Advanced level. Classes do not run in sessions. |
| Workshop Review | Keep your dancing up-to-date with the latest patterns and variations danced across the country. | Emphasis is placed on proper technique, and learning to "dance" with the pattern. | Intermediate to Advanced level. Classes do not run in sessions. |
| Practice Dance | A beginner practice dance is held at the end of each session at 8:00 on Wednesday nights, to encourage beginner dancers to try our their new skills. | Beginners and experienced dancers mingle for social dancing. | All Beginner and experienced dancers are welcome! |
| Specialty Classes |
Various dances are presented by an STS or guest instructor each week throughout the month with a “Mixer” Dance on the LAST Thursday (West Coast Swing and Specialty Dance) |
A variety of dances, such as 2-Step, Cha-Cha, Hustle, Night-Club 2-step, and others are included. | See Thriller Thursdays for details |
| Cross Dance | On the Last Thursday of the month, after the specialty dance a "Cross-Dance" is hold. | Enjoy a wide variety of music and dances. | OPEN dancing for all dancers. |
