Judy Rooms

U.S. Open Swing Dance Winner—1986

Judy (Oklahoma City) learned the Jitterbug as a child, which easily transitioned her to West Coast Swing in 1984, when she was introduced to the OKC Swing Club at a Singles Fair. After dancing only 4 months, she competed for the first time at the 1984 State Championships with John Lee.  In Bing Wine’s class, she met Charlie Stinson who would be a long-time partner and friend.

In 1986, she e
ntered the U.S. Open Swing Dance Championship with Al Neel, and placed 3rd in the Classic division. In 1988, Judy was the acting Chairman of the Buddy Austin Invitational.  Her career took her to Anchorage and Seattle, where she continued to dance and help teach.  Over the years, Judy has competed in many regional events and won with many other great partners.  Judy’s competition days are over, and she has returned to OKC to retire, but she still enjoys the music, some social dancing and watching the dancers who “Keep West Coast Swing alive and dancing.”
